 CLAT 2022 Counselling Process Started


The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) counselling procedure is a system for admission to undergraduate programmes at a National Law University (NLU) and other law schools. This is the official procedure for allocating a place at an NLU based on the All India Rank (AIR), which takes into account reservations and university preferences indicated in the admission form.


It involves an online application, selection of NLUs, allotment of seats at NLUs and payment of counselling fees CLAT. The counselling process is the final admission process, and an applicant can enrol in an NLU after such a process.


CLAT counselling begins after the CLAT results are announced. The allotment of colleges depends on the preference list that candidates are required to fill along with the CLAT admission form and the cut-off scores of a particular university for that year. Once a university has been allocated, the candidate can choose that university. This choice cannot be changed later.


However, if the university is not blocked, the candidate may be reassigned based on his or her score. There is a possibility that a candidate may be assigned the same university at the next counselling session at CLAT, and there is also a possibility that the candidate may move up the list and be assigned a university that is more desirable according to his/her preference list.


NLUs have a maximum of four to five rounds of counselling, but only the seats that have not yet been assigned are given in subsequent rounds of counselling. Depending on the vacancies after the counselling rounds, vacancies are also released for which applicants can apply according to a prescribed procedure.


As a rule, once an applicant has been allocated a place, he/she cannot be downgraded to a university lower on the list. However, there are certain exceptions to this rule. However, if an applicant is assigned to a school lower on his or her preference list, he or she will be automatically upgraded if there are immediate vacancies at a school with a higher preference.
