CLAT UG, PG Eligibility Criteria 2023

The message CLAT for the year 2023 should appear soon. All precautions have been taken for the safety of students during the COVID -19 pandemic. CLAT is a Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for candidates pursuing a three-year LLB, a five-year integrated LLB, and an LLM degree. NLUs will administer the test nationally for the UG and PG programs.


The CLAT admission requirements depend on several factors, such as:

CLAT UG Admission criteria 2023


The CLAT admission criteria vary for PG and UG programs. Below are the CLAT admission criteria for a 5-year integrated law program. Check the best books for CLAT.


Academic Qualification: To qualify for CLAT 2023 exam, the candidate should have passed the Senior Secondary School Examination/ 12th Board Examination with minimum marks as mentioned below:


Unreserved, OBC, Specially Abled Persons (SAP), and other categories receive 45% of the funding.

40%: For SC /ST category.

General Criteria: Candidates who appeared for the exam in April/May can apply for CLAT 2023. At the time of registration, candidates should provide proof of passing the exam. Otherwise, he/she will lose his/her place in CLAT 2023.


If two applicants have the same score, a balancing procedure will be conducted:


(i) Higher score in the legal qualifying exam on CLAT 2023.


(ii) Higher age


(iii) A computerized lottery process.


CLAT Age Limit: There is no age limit for participation in the CLAT 2023 UG program.


CLAT PG Admission criteria 2023


The CLAT exam provides an opportunity for both native and non-native candidates to apply for the PG program offered by NLUs and other private institutes that accept CLAT results. Check how to fill out the CLAT application form.


Academic Qualification: Candidates applying for the CLAT PG program should have a valid Bachelor's degree of 3 years or 5 years in Law or equivalent. The minimum score depends on the category:


50%: Minimum passing scores of 50% are necessary for Unreserved, OBC, Specially Abled Persons (SAP), and other categories.


45 percent: For the SC/ST category.

Candidates who are applying for CLAT 2023 must submit their qualifying exam final results within the window of time allotted by the relevant college or institute. Until then, students will be given provisional admission.

General Criteria: If two candidates have the same score in the qualifying examination, a decision procedure will be conducted in case of a tie:


(i) Higher age

(ii) A computerized lottery procedure.


Age restriction: The CLAT PG program has no age restriction, just like the CLAT UG program.
