Numerology Numbers: What is your life path number?

Learn how to easily determine your life path and destiny numbers based on your birth date and name.

Have you ever caught yourself looking at your watch at exactly 11:11? Or wondered why you so often meet people born on the same day of the month? Or why does your lucky number show up in the most unexpected places? The numbers of numerology form a powerful, sacred system that goes back thousands of years. With this system, life path numbers and destiny numbers - among other basic numerological principles - can be easily calculated. As a professional astrologer, I use the principles of numerology to add dimension to my work. Whether I'm working with a client or writing horoscopes, the calculation of numerology is an incredible addition to mystical study.

Just as your astrological birth chart contains powerful metaphysical insights - the planets and zodiac signs are associated with certain qualities - the teachings of numerology can also provide insights into personality, future events, and even the greater meaning of life.

Allure chatted with Ophi Edut of AstroTwins about the relationship between astrology and numerology. "Numerology is a great complement to astrology. It helps clarify the sign by providing additional nuance," Ophi explains, adding that numerology enhances your self-understanding by revealing not only how you express yourself, but also where you give off your inherent energy. For example, "Numerology reveals the age of your soul. If you're a Leo Sun with a life path of 8, you know that the Leo nature is filtered more from within than from without."

A numerology is also a great tool for making sense of recurring numbers. "With numerology, you can derive details from certain information, like a home address," Ophi says. "You really start to see patterns everywhere."

Numerical repetition and synchronicity have been observed for thousands of years. Chaldean numerology is based on ancient Babylonian practices, and Kabbalistic studies of Jewish mysticism explore recurring numerals in the Old Testament. In fact, many occultists believe that the appearance of 11:11 is related to the Tetragrammaton - the unpronounceable four-letter name for the God of Israel.

Numerology is an excellent complement to astrology - it helps clarify the sign by providing additional nuances.

Numerology, which is most commonly practiced today, is based on the teachings of the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras. Pythagoras was a brilliant mathematician, but he wasn't only interested in quantitative solutions. He believed that the physical world was an amalgamation of the energetic vibrations of numbers, and developed a system that linked letters to whole numbers. This practice was a study of numerical interconnectivity - the belief that everything is aligned through non-physical forces that are best expressed through numbers.

I know. Math can be intimidating. In fact, many are intimidated by numerology because calculating with numbers after one too many confusing tests in elementary school isn't everyone's idea of a "good time" But I've good news: You don't have to be a math whiz to explore the magic of numerology. All you need to discover the mystical properties of numbers is a pen, paper, and a few simple math problems (or your nearest calculator).

How to calculate your numerology life path number?

The easiest way to work with numerology is to analyze your individual birth date. Numerology is all about getting to the root of the number. To do this, you simply reduce the digits until you reach a single-digit number, with the exception of 11 and 22, which are considered master numbers (more on this later). This single digit is your individual life path number.

The life path number is similar to your sun sign in astrology: it reveals your identity, including your strengths, weaknesses, talents, and ambitions. Your life path number also reveals the tone of your experiences and why events occur in the past, present, and future. Simply put, it creates an organized, structured system that illuminates your lived experiences.

Let's say your birthday is August 18, 1989. To calculate your life path number, reduce each component of that date to a single digit:

The month, 8, remains a single digit = 8.

The date, 18, is reduced to 1 + 8 = 9.

The year 1989 is reduced to 1 + 9 + 8 + 9. This is equal to 27. Then 27 is reduced to 2 + 7 = 9.

Then we add the reduced month, date, and year numbers (8 + 9 + 9) and arrive at 26. Finally, we add 2 + 6 and arrive at 8. If you were born on August 18, 1989, your life number is 8 (and you and I also have the same birthday!).

That may seem daunting at first, but when you look at it that way, it's not so intimidating anymore, right? That's right!
